Often, my clients have already tried:Â
- Non Violent Communication (too scripted) or Crucial Conversations (too complicated to use in the moment).
- Trainings, team workshops, or relying on colleagues to fix “people problems,” but the drama keeps resurfacing. The real issue isn’t a lack of knowledge, it’s habitual, fear-based reactions that inflame communication and sabotage your confidence.
- Assuming that being too direct, too emotional, or too passive is just your personality… rather than your stress response.Â
- Silencing yourself to keep the peace, or pushing harder to stay in control. Both approaches leave you disconnected from your team and drained at the end of the day.
- White-knuckling your way through tension, which doesn’t work because leadership under pressure isn’t about trying harder. It’s about understanding what’s actually happening inside you.
- Reading personal development and leadership books, trying everything, and still worrying that you’re not enough.
Some of these approaches can be helpful, but many don't work because they rely on intellect alone.
They explain what you need to know or think about, but don’t give you the how.
How to manage emotions, how to hold space for other people’s reactions without becoming reactive yourself, and how to guide others into productive communication (instead of devolving into conflict).
